The last few days, in what spare time I've had, I have been making a huge effort to reduce the amount of unprocessed RAW files residing on my hard drive.

Some have been deleted, some are family stuff, some are images I wish to keep but wouldn't necessarily blog and some have surprised me in that I really quite liked them having overlooked them many times. The batch I've been working on are from summer 2008 which shows you how far I am behind!

Let me know your thoughts as always.

On another note I am considering moving the blog to a new location. If I can export all of my work from the blogger version then I'll do it but at the moment it's a big IF I think. I'm not willing to move and start afresh or manually migrate over 350 posts! I'll keep you posted.

I have taken a moonshot through my telescope before, but I got hold of a 'T' mount and eyepeice adapter, you just can't beat a 1600mm lens! Finally got a break in the weather. I like these shots I have to say.

It's about time again, the first image of this year, and a little late happy new year to you all. I had only limited possibilities to go out shooting so far. The light and my work schedule don't agree too much at the moment. Nothing new, but that's the way it is.

I have started a little project which I have announced on the blog a while ago which is still going on, but still needs some more material. I have some shots in the bag for this one already, and it evolved also into another little side-project. The first image of the latter will go live in two weeks. So for today, it's a little older one.

St.Michaels Mount.... What a wonderful and mystic location in Cornwall. It's soon a year ago that I have been visiting there and still I haven't finished processing all the images, not that I took too much images there, I guess I'm just a tad slow ;-)

I took this one on my last day of this trip, when everything came together just nicely and I had the conditions I was looking for the whole week. A little later I got the image I didn't even dare to dream of. A little coverage of my trip you can find here on the blog if you are interested.

This Week: Getting High in Houston

After visiting the tops of four other buildings in downtown, our final stop was the Hilton Americas which overlooks Discovery Green. We were met in this glass walled meeting room by Stephen Fox, local architectural historian who gave us a brief talk about the history of the skyline. The skyline is always the attraction, but how can you not love that carpet! You can see the meeting room at the Hilton website. It is the block that is sticking out above the name Hilton at the top right of the hotel.

This was the tallest of the Tall Ships. Unfortunately, they didn't have their sails up but it's still pretty impressive.

"The Captain Miranda was launched in Spain in 1930 as sailing cargo carrier, she was active in various trades in Latin America after World War II. She became a hydrographic survey vessel for the Uruguayan Navy during the 1960s, and in 1978 was converted to school ship or the training future officers of the Uruguayan Navy."

As announced on the blog, today sees the second anniversary of this blog and with it finally goes live the last image of my "Bay Series".

It was an interesting location. Within a distance of maybe 150 meters were three totally different looking bays, all bathed in the beautiful last light of the evening. It was a wonderful location there, north of the city of Tromsö and we're looking forward already to next summer to return to Norway.

On revisiting some old photos - here is a shot from a favoured camping spot up in the 'highlands' behind Victoria. An easy hike in, meant 'luxury camping' - big eats, a bottle of wine... and the view. Nice.

This is the view that is seen when looking out the living room windows of the cabin. It wasn't the sunniest of days on Saturday so the colors don't look as vibrant. I posted a similar shot of this spot back in June when I had gone up to stay for a few days.

Allow me to introduce you to Hollie and Lance, the beautiful couple you see above. These two contacted me a few weeks back, hoping to schedule a shoot during a business trip to Boston. Needless to say, after I saw their portfolios, I didn't waste any time picking a date.

Hoping to take advantage of what little warm weather we have left here in New England, I was able to convince them to shoot on location at the Charleston Navy Yard. Thanks to Hollie and Lance (who braved what I swear was a gale force wind) and the beautiful Boston skyline we were able to catch some really great frames.

There is much more to come, so be sure and stay tuned for updates.

This is the first photo from my trip to Cuba. This island is great. Loved the people, their kindness and hospitality. There are so many beautyiful landscapes and urban areas to photograph in Cuba! I wish I could go back someday. This shot was taken in Havana.

This Week: Downtown YMCA

No matter how beautiful the new building will be it won't have the wonderful details like this tiling around the pool. There used to be such pride in the details of buildings and it didn't matter if it was a building for the very wealthy or for the every day man. A couple weeks ago I had a 6:30am chiropractic appointment in Duxbury. I figured since I was already getting up early I might as well get up a little earlier and get some shots of the sunrise before my appointment. I arrived at the Powder Point bridge at Duxbury beach, pulled out my SLR camera and discovered that the memory card was still in the computer. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue as I have four other memory cards. Only problem this time was that I had switched camera bags and forgot to move the memory cards to the other bag! Since I had the SLR camera I didn't have my small P&S camera with me. All was not lost, as I remembered I had my iPhone on me.

It was a beautiful sunrise and with or without a photo it was worth getting up early to see. Although, I was pleased with how well the 1st generation iPhone captured these images.

Man, I've missed working on HDR images. It's just so much fun; I don't know how I fell out of that for so long.

The title doesn't refer to this piece, but the state of my computer. It's pooped. Full of junk I've downloaded and needs a clean start.

Enter Windows 7, stage left. Now watch closely as pooped computer transforms into badass computer. BAM!

Actually, "BAM!" will be happening this weekend. I'll be out of commission and out of touch as I get the new OS installed on my machine.

When I return, however, I'll have an arsenal of sports images to pepper you with for a while. Tomorrow I'm shooting a local high school football game and Saturday morning I'll be missing (sadly) the Michigan/Nortre Dame game to shoot on the sidelines at the Montana State game against Dixie State in Bozeman (I'll still be sporting my Maize, don't worry). First two times shooting football. I'm jacked!

After visiting the Vanderbilt home we split into two groups. My cousin's wife took the kids back to the house to go swimming in the pool and Kevin, Chris, Karen and I headed to the Milbrook Vineyards & Winery. Seeing as I don't drink wine I just went along for the photographic opportunities.

These clouds don't look very ominous but it down poured on our way to the winery. I seriously thought I was going to have to pull over at one point because I couldn't see a foot in front of me. Kevin, Chris and Karen went off to the wine tasting while I headed upstair to take this shot from the balcony. Or maybe I was standing on the bench in the entrance area when I took this. Either way I was trying to stay undercover and out of the rain.

I'm back! and I'm so rusty this is the third time I'm writing this post because I meandered away from this page twice! So you'll be getting the abridged version. Carrie Marine is growing, giving birth to two new photography business; Heirloom Photography (brought to you by Megan Carrie) and ... drum roll please ... ME! <cue the evil laugh> That's right, Bess Marine Photography, BMP is back. And I'm building a new portfolio and wiping the cob webs off my blog, that's right I'm back! You can expect to see me posting regularly again, probably not everyday... yet. At least two or three times a week though.

We're headed back to our roots in the northeast. While our two years of perfect weather and afternoon thunderstorms have been amazing, and make it quite tempting to stick around. They're right in saying "there's no place like home." Especially when you live in the state that proudly exclaims "the way life should be." And they too, are right.

This morning Joanna, being the super trooper she is, showed up on my doorstep at 7am, ready to work. This kind of work would be easy though, just drive your car and smile. All was well until I decided to make an adjustment on the camera on the fly from the back seat, oh and of course just in time for your friendly neighborhood police officer to come trolling by. I attract cops like fly tape. Ah well, no tickets here. Just another story for the books.

This Week: Chicago at Night

I surprisingly felt very safe at night for the most part. The times I didn't is just because I really didn't know the neighborhood and wasn't sure whether I should or shouldn't be scared. When you live in an area you know the good, bad and the ugly, but when you are visiting you are taking a guess. I was mostly walking towards Michigan Avenue and the main tourist areas at night so it felt pretty safe. And it always captivated me especially the lights and the elevated train.

Today marks my one year anniversary at Pixyblog. I have been photoblogging for almost 5 years now, but I would say that my best year has been this last year at Pixyblog. Thanks to Richard for creating a beautiful, polished and professional looking service and for being there to answer my constant questions.

Monks climbing the ladder to the roof of Wat Chedi Luang. This image is a newer version of this one. It just wasn't right, somehow. Something about first version just kept bugging me in the back of my mind, and I knew I would have to redo it sooner or later. Turns out it was much later. I was reluctant to give up the "monk orange", but do feel that black & white is ultimately the more powerful version. Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I have been continuing the scanning of my rock archive. This image of Freddie Mercury was taken at the Cardiff Castle gig. I shot many concerts for the band over a three year period. Its great fun seaching the contact print books and file cabinets to find old images. The images once scanned and retouched then go to a photo library to be uploaded to their collections.
